In a nutshell: This systematic review aims to establish the effects and costs of early supported discharge services (ESD) compared with conventional services for stroke patients. The review concludes that appropriately resourced ESD services provided for a selected group of stroke patients can reduce long-term dependency and admission to institutional care as well as reducing the length of hospital stay.
